About Shri Multan Sewa Samiti

Origin of Shri Multan Sewa Samiti dates back to 1909 when Malik Chetan Das and his associates decided to set up the institute for the service of mankind, in particular to serve those affected with the plague epidemic in Multan. The Samiti was formally registered in 1921 with Dr. Purshotam Lal as President and Shri Bhagwan Das Jasuja as General Secretary. That year also Multan was affected by plague and the Samiti Volunteers served those affected by the epidemic. Mahatma Gandhi visited the camps organized by the Samiti for the service of epidemic victims and appreciated the services of the Samitee. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviyia and Hakim Ajmal Khan also visited the Samiti Ashram in Multan in 1922 and showered blessings on the Samiti volunteers. During the independence movement in 1947, Samiti volunteers played key role for the safe movement of the people to their respective places in India and organized transit camps for the comfort and safety during the movement.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister and Lady Mount Batten visited the camps and were pleased with the arrangements.

The Samiti continued its activities for the service of mankind after independence shifted to Delhi. Presently It has its registered office at 50 Shakti Vihar, Pitampura, Delhi 110034
